Skopelos
Arriving by boat from Skiathos into Skopelos Bay, marvel at this incredibly green island, its pine covered mountains and 20 miles of beaches and coves; allowing the people of Skopelos remote tranquillity in contrast to their busier neighbours in Skiathos.
The port town of Skopelos is one of the most beautiful in all Greece. Rows of tall white houses with red tile roofs overlook the activity in the harbour below. Hidden among the maze of quaint cobbled streets (so narrow and steep cars can forget it!) are 125 churches, surprisingly sophisticated shops and perched on top, the ruins of a Venetian fortress.
There is Stafilos Beach 4km away, easily reached by regular bus, with a lovely cliff top taverna and next door Velanio beach, outside the main town. Otherwise, the tiny hamlet of Agnontas has a pretty port, or there’s the secluded beach of Limonari with many tavernas, dancing bars and a disco.
